What are dental implants?

Dental implants offer a highly researched, predictable, conservative and elegant method of replacing missing teeth, with the patient being provided with solution that mimics as closely as possible the natural tooth. A commercially pure titanium post is placed in the jaw bone and acts like the root of a natural tooth. It is used to support the replacement tooth after a suitable healing period. The replacement teeth might be fixed permanently (like a crown or bridge) or attached in a way which lets you remove them for cleaning (like a denture).

What is involved?

Implant treatment normally has two stages. First, the implant is placed in the jaw during a highly controlled and precise surgical procedure. Then, when the jaw has healed, replacement teeth are attached to the implant. In some situations it is possible for temporary teeth to be attached to an implant at the time of fitting.
